Dinner in Melbourne and Sydney

We hosted two Redwood dinners back-to-back this week. One in Sydney, one in Melbourne. The food was fantastic and the company even better.

Things we discussed with other founders who were deep in the throes of building global companies:

• Raising as a medtech company in Australia versus SaaS

• Whether the AI threat for existing platforms is from customers building their own versions, or from nimble startups being able to recreate the functionality on day one

• Various solutions to house prices in Australia (not sure we solved it)

• The growing opportunity for defence tech in Australia

• Managing staff who have been great for years, but have reached their plateau

• Which aspects of Australian culture are holding us back from really making a dent in the world

• The joy of fishing, and why fishing for marlin requires very little skill and is actually quite dull

• Adjusting to life post-exit and what that means for purpose

• Whether (insert Australian cyber startup here) was a good investment opportunity (okay that may have been me!).
